Position Overview:

The Grant Accountant will be responsible for maintaining funds for the assigned Financial Aid Award portfolio, interpret award documents for proper setup in financial systems, periodic systems testing and effectively communicating and coordinating with departmental and central unit personnel.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available. 

Responsibilities:
  • Perform reconciliation and process biweekly draws for Federal Financial Aid awards. Process billing for MHEC Financial Aid Awards on demand as needed per award requirements. Read, review and interpret award documents for terms and conditions.
  • Complete the financial closeout of FinAid awards annually according to FISAP in coordination with the Financial Aid Office personnel.
  • Systems testing and maintaining the developed testing scripts for all Peoplesoft bundle and tools upgrades. Maintaining the Peoplesoft grant work center and pivot grids under the direction of the manager.
  • Establish combination codes for new sponsored projects daily.
  • Assist in generating Sponsored Awards and related amendments in our system of record. As part of set up, the grant accountant will read, review and interpret award documents including budgets to ensure award setup is complete in PeopleSoft, and provide notification to campus units of award
    information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2 years – Full working knowledge of general accounting practices and procedures
  • Familiarity with and understanding of research administration, finance, and/or information technology.
  • Ability to use multiple software applications.
  • Ability to use analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (e.g. Word, Excel)
  • Proficient with Google tools (e.g. Calendar, Gmail)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to be extremely organized with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness.
  • Demonstrated team player.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
  • 2 years experience in Research Administration Accounting.
