Since 1987, the Shriver Center at UMBC has coordinated the Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSIP) in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Maryland. The Shriver Center has developed a portfolio of statewide programs known as the Maryland Public Service Scholars program designed to prepare college students across the state for social impact leadership and workforce development, aiming to build and launch the next generation of Maryland’s leaders in the public, nonprofit, and for-profit social impact sectors. 

Position Overview:

This position oversees the operations of the MD Public Service Scholars (MPSS) program while providing strategic leadership to ensure program goals are met and delivered with excellence.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the operations of the MPSS programs, including marketing, recruitment, application management, selection, placement, leadership development curriculum design, facilitation, program delivery, mentorship, supporting hosts and mentors, supporting students, event planning, logistics coordination, evaluation and assessment, alumni outreach and engagement, communications, and reporting.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including the Office of the Governor and the Maryland Department of Transportation, as well as other nonprofit organizations and government agencies.
  • Develop and implement strategies to identify and engage new partners to support the program's mission and goals.
  • Identify and pursue new program opportunities that align with the organization's mission and goals.
  • Work with partners and stakeholders to secure funding for new programs and initiatives.
  • Liaise with the MPSS Alumni Board to ensure alumni receive ongoing support and opportunities for growth and develop and implement strategies to engage all MPSS alumni.
  • Develop and implement systems to manage program data and information across all programs while ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and use in communications and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to streamline operations.
  • Develop and manage program budgets, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
  • Monitor program expenses and revenue while ensuring fiscal sustainability. 
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 3 years of leading student internships, leadership development, workforce development, service-related, or similar programs.
  • One year of small budget management experience.
  • One year of program development.
  • Marketing and fundraising experience. 
  • Driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • 5 years of leading student internships, leadership development, workforce development, service-related, or similar programs.
  • 1-3 years of grant writing experience.
  • Experience working in or with the nonprofit, state, local government, or social impact sectors.
