Position Overview:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Retriever CARE, the Residential Life Retriever CARE Coordinator provides goal-oriented, strengths-based assessment, intervention, and coordination of services to students in residential settings experiencing academic, personal, or medical difficulties. This role ensures an institutional response to students in distress by making referrals to and delivering interventions in consultation with the university’s Retriever CARE Team, connecting students with appropriate resources both on- and off-campus.

Responsibilities:
  1. Care Coordination:

    • Deliver direct care coordination services to students referred for behaviors of  concern, including threats of harm to self or others, disruptions to academic study due to mental health crises, conflict resolution and other personal challenges.

    • Conduct initial assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with students and relevant stakeholders.

    • Monitor student progress and provide ongoing support and follow-up as needed.

    • Facilitate connections to appropriate resources both on- and off-campus.

    • Utilize the NABITA Risk Rubric to triage mental health concerns and assess potential threats to the campus community.

  2. Student Support and Advocacy: 

    • Serve as a liaison between students, Residential Life staff, academic advisors, counseling services, and other campus resources to coordinate effective support services.

    • Facilitate referrals to appropriate campus and community resources based on student needs.

  3. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Document case notes accurately in the electronic record-keeping system.

    • Maintain accurate and private records of student interactions, assessments, case notes, and progress reports, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and university policies.

    • Analyze data trends related to behaviors of concern to prepare regular reports to inform policies and practice.

  4. Training and Professional Development:

    • Participate in on-going training sessions and professional development opportunities related to case management, crisis intervention, and student support services including attendance at relevant conferences, workshops, and training sessions

    • Regularly review and identify S best practices, legal requirements, and trends in student affairs and residential life.

  5. Departmental Responsibilities:

    • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director.

    • Participate in assessment efforts related to the effectiveness of care coordination within Residential Life.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Experience Required: 2 years direct experience with managing behavioral and/or mental health concerns and demonstrated ability to support individuals in crisis.

Education Required: Master’s degree preferably in student affairs, student development, mental-health/counseling related field, or other related degree.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience Preferred: Experience in the higher education environment or knowledge of student development theory.

Licensure/ Certification Preferred:

  • Mental Health First Aid Trainer
  • NABITA Certifications
    • Risk Rubric Certification
    • Violence Risk Assessment of the Written Word Certification
    • Structured Interview for Violence Risk Assessment-35 Certification
    • Assessment and Management of Suicidal Ideation Certification
